Choosing An Appropriate Lock
When shopping for an appropriate lock, your first step is to decide what type of setting your lock needs to serve. For instance, you may be looking to fit a residential door for your home or you may be interested in outfitting a commercial door for your business.
After determining which type of setting your lock needs to serve, you will then want to consider what you want the lock to do. Perhaps you want a single code which you won't change very often ... or you may want to program various different codes with the ability to change them frequently and easily.
Finally, you will want to make your choices between mechanical, electrical or biometric lock designs. Whatever your choices are, we hope you'll enjoy browsing through our store and discovering the features of each keyless lock we offer.
Mechanical Locks
Key locks are the most common mechanical locks. They are used primarily to delay, discourage, or deter theft or unauthorized access.
Rather than using a key, electro-mechanical door locks open by pushing a series of numbered buttons. These locks can be either electrically or mechanically activated. Some of the advantages of using these locks are low cost, easy installation, easy combination changing and simple operation.
Electronic Locks
An electronic lock is a high-security lock which employs a card-key programmed with a particular code. To open a door or activate a lock, the card is typically inserted into a slot or groove and the coded area is read by the card-reader.
Card-readers fall into two basic categories: On-Line and Intelligent. On-Line card-readers must communicate with a central processor that makes the entry/exit decision, whereas Intelligent card-readers compare the data on the card with pre-programmed data and entry/exit is granted/denied by the card-reader itself at the reader location. Multiple card-readers can be used to control access to numerous buildings and rooms from one central processor.
Biometric Locks
A biometric lock is a high-security lock designed primarily to control access to extremely sensitive special-use areas where positive personal identification is an operational necessity.
Biometric locks open by using one of six primary categories of biometrics technology: Fingerprints, Hand Geometry, Retinal Scan, Signature Dynamics, Voice Verification or Keystroke Dynamics.
